Student Team Project Wins Award
The CubeSat Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) Testing and Validation Team placed 4th in the ASME Hawaii Francis Rhodes Montgomery Design Competition. Their project involved the design and construction of an assembly for testing and validation of the ADCS of a 3U CubeSat under development at HSFL. The test assembly incorporates a spherical air bearing and balancing mechanisms for co-locating the center of mass at the center of rotation while matching the moment of intertia properties of the CubeSat. Team members Yosef Ben Gershom, Brialyn Onodera, Jonah Ang, and Mars Rayno were mentored by Dr. Miguel Nunes of HSFL. The competition was held on May 5, 2017 and is typically for students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering’s Senior Design course.
